For a quicker installation, with some more minor inconveniences depending upon how you look at it, solar garden lights can be a great idea.  Solar lighting relies on the fact that the sun will provide the power to charge your garden lights and so there is no need for wires to connect to a power source.  However, there are wired versions of solar lights, mainly reserved for applications where you want to have the flexibility of using your lights in cloudy or other poor weather conditions where the sun is not out enough to charge your lights.  Then, there is of course the other popular style of solar light that has a photovoltaic sensor on the top and just sticks into the ground.  You can literally pick these up at your local home improvement warehouse and have them installed in just a few hours.
